Bank holiday

Bank holiday Monday and the morning was beautiful and Sunny.

Spent three hours last night changing the cleats on my cycling shoes- three hours, I kid you not. All of the bolts were ceased and when I eventually hacksawed the plastic cleats off the bolts would turn but not move along the threads. Finally got things sorted and got to bed at one am- sad.

Relaxed for the morning and eventually got on the road. Did the same 100Km as last week. This time I was on my winter bike as my main wheels have gone in for a service. Took things easy and got in a good endurance building session. Trying to decide what to do over the next two days. Choice is to rest tomorrow and do a fast 3 hour spin on Wednesday or to do an easy 50Km tomorrow and hill repeats on Wednesday.

Working today so I got up early to do my hill repeats. Reached the steepest part of the 3Km climb to see definite signs of progress. Despite the 8% gradient I have been going fast enough to scare the locals and the Council want me to stay below 30Kph.

I’ll try but I cannot promise anything

Exercise Exorcism

I rode past the site of my accident today. It is the first time I’ve ridden this 100Km route since the day I came off. Cloudy and some rain but still a nice trip. Keeping to my training plan and hope I’ll make progress. I plan a fitness test in a couple of weeks.

WTF %^*&!!!

Weight today was 93.7Kg

I’ve done a good weeks training including a very difficuly 150k trip around the Comeragh mountains with 2000m of climbing. I’ve eaten well with no alcohol for 3 weeks and no eating out. 1.7K heavier than last week and 2.7Kg heavier than the week before. There is no f*&$ing Justice

Just gotta keep going. 50Km tomorrow morning and 78Km Massrock trip on Weds

So far, so good

Did my two days training and am now resting. Enjoyed the hill repeats last night. Did all 5 runs in times within a few seconds of each other. Slight but definite progress seen. Reckon if I follow THE plan I will be as good as I can be.

Final Plan

Sat down tonight to do a plan for the week when I realised that there are only 40 days to Dartmoor. Everyday is accounted for and I can pretty much plan every pedal stroke until the start line at Albertville. The most alarming thing is that I will only be able to do three 150Km + spins between now and Dartmoor and that’s at a push.

I have been unwell for the past few days mainly due to overtraining last week. Was feeling great but then noticed that my maximum heart rate was 5-10 beats lower than usual. I eased off but still became ill over the weekend and got no significant training done. It all stemmed from failing to rest after my first hill repeats of the year.

Key: Need to rest harder and train harder. Need to stop pushing myself on every ride.

I will go easy on the easy spins and push harder on the hard spins.

Tic Toc …

End of April and again I have not done enough about my weight! Every year is the same. I train in the cold and wet everyday I can and then I let all the hard work go to waist (Sic) by eating everything in sight! even if I lose 1Kg per week I will be well above my weight target.

Training is going reasonably well. Cannot follow a strict plan as there have been a couple of personal emergencies. I have managed a couple of 150Km + cycles. Last weekend I completed the Aware cycle all around Connemara in tough wind and yesterday I did a long route all around Co. Clare from Kinvara.

Where to from here?

          1) Patience- Keeping doing 150km rides and add in weekly hill repeats for the next 4 weeks

          2) Don’t get cross get even. Keep trying with the diet and weight loss will happen

          3) Make a pilgrage to Mahon falls for hardest hillrepeats ever- Or maybe Seeskin
