Looking forward to the Sean Kelly tour of Waterford on Sunday. Have never managed it in under 6 hours but my goal for Sunday is 5hr 45
I have done the SKT every year since it started. Looking forward to comparing myself to last year.
Be honest now, who amongst us hasn’t been on a spin thinking, ‘My ass hurts, my breathe stinks, am I paying too much for my waste collection? and all I need to fix this bike is a 3 piece spanner set. The Leinster loop musette had it all!
Joking aside the welcome here is great and sign on went smoothly with breakfast snacks and great coffee provided. The sky is even clearing. Getting ready to start in the next few minutes.
Base layer needed this weekend, first sign that Autumn is on the way. I still have two big spins to look forward to though. The Sean Kelly tour and the Etape De Connemara. After that? Well the last big challange of 2013 of course. 15, 000 km in 9 days …
Decided this weekend that I need to reduce my milage and increase intensity for the last time this year. Will try to do Hill repeats a couple of times before Sean Kelly tour. Then I heard Stephen Roche on an Newstalk ad and decided to do the Leinster loop next weekend

Cycling faster than I ever have before I am enjoying the fruits of my weight loss and training. Then a slap in the face arrives in the post.
My Dartmoor silver medal to reminded me of my failure. It is a beautiful medal, heavier with lovely inscribing. I cannot help but wonder what it would feel like to hold a gold one …
The perfect Ride! Did the Lessie loop for the first time in 14 months and knocked 14 minutes off my time. As usual I’m reaching my peak after all the big cycles.
I made a last minute decision to do the An Post tour of Meath and will be travelling up late on Saturday night to stay with my friend Tom. I am pumped for it!
The seventh of July 2013 will be remarked upon in Irish cycling circles, for many years to come. It was the day I completed L’etape du Tour in less than 6 hours. Dan Martin stage win in the real Tour might also get a mention. Today’s spin may turn out to be the peak of my cycling achievement but hopefully there is more to come for Dan Martin. Maybe a victory on Ventoux next weekend or indeed in the Etape stage itself on the penultimate day of the tour.
